MAY DAY!

I’m not calling out for help…I’m just telling you what day the  picture  below was taken.  May 1st.  IMG_20170501_112201480

Southeastern Colorado and Southwest Kansas was hit with a record blizzard the last weekend of April.

The area received 18 to 20 inches of snow with wind gusts above 50 mph.

Conditions like this are extremely hard on crops and livestock.  It’s heartwarming to see people pull together to help each other out.

In the first picture above, I’m standing on a 4 to 5 foot drift. (with my collapsed chicken pen in the background…darn it.)  The second picture shows the strange combination of white snow and fully leafed out trees.  The heavy, wet snow damaged limbs and the 26.9 degree temps froze leaves.IMG_20170430_203200109_HDR

As with any storm though, physical or otherwise, if you wait long enough and pray long enough, it passes–and the sun shines again.

So much damage and waste of animal life. That storm was horrible! I’m glad all your animals made it through.

That’s so terrible! I hope there wasn’t too much damage, but glad that so many pulled together to help each other out. Sometimes the worst of nature brings out the best in people.
