Windstorms are part of life here, but we don’t like them very much!

We try to prepare by “battening down the hatches”  I tipped my patio chairs over last night, rather than see them go flying.  So far, it hasn’t been too bad.

I guess a fun (?) thing about a windstorm is to see where the tumbleweeds end up.  Some years, they pile as high as the tops of the fences and in the worst cases, rooftops.  Those are bad years.   Today, we have had winds in the 30 and 40 mph. range for most of the day.   No horizontal snow and NO BLOWING DIRT!  When the fall is dry and the wheat is small, dirt storms are just something that makes you feel sick.  A good old cold, windy day like today is nothing we can’t handle in SW Kansas.

We had the horizontal snow up here today which made for an interesting day on the road, and a rather large tumble weed kept a driver trapped in a fuel island. He didn’t want to run it over and sat there until an attendant came and moved it.

I haven’t heard how far down the snow came, but I don’t think it was too far from us. And did you just laugh at the guy and the tumble weed?

Yes I did have a little laugh at him, but not as much as those people who like to take them as souvenirs from the “wild, wild west”.
